Release Date: 7th November 2013

As part of the Howard Jones 30th Anniversary celebrations, every ticket sold for the concerts in Shepherds Bush Empire on November 29th and Birmingham 02 Academy on November 30th included this complimentary CD. These special CD's were available from a special desk near the merch stand at each show. This was a special compilation of some carefully selected songs from Howard's 30 year career which began in 1983 with the release of 'New Song'. This selection of remastered original recordings was not compiled to be a 'greatest hits', instead it was a celebration of the nine studio albums Howard had released over the last three decades. The album also included 'The Human Touch' (prototype) which was a brand new song and had never been released anywhere before. The song later appeared on 'ENGAGE'.

“The 'C3LEBRATI0N' graphic on the album cover was created from a soundwave of the spoken word 'Celebration' with a colour spectrum running through it. These colours were carefully selected from all of Howard's studio album cover artworks produced over the past thirty years, starting with 'Humans Lib' on the left...”

Steve Cripps, Graphic Designer, on the making of the 'C3LEBRATI0N' artwork.

ENGAGE was centred around Jones’ live show, first performed in November 2013 at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire, to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of his career. The groundbreaking concept, which includes a vast array of influences that have shaped his work, incorporates the audience’s participation through audio-visual elements and the use of apps. It’s a celebration of arts seen through Howard’s eyes, using all the expressions he loves the most: music, ballet, contemporary dance, cinema and philosophy.

“I conceived ENGAGE as a live visceral experience”, Howard explains, “I imagined myself at the venue and imagined what it would be like to be at a gig and how exciting you could make the music and the visuals and make it a fully immersive experience. I didn’t want to think of just another studio album or another live concert DVD; I wanted to liberate myself from conventional song structures. I wanted cinematic textures, big sub-bass moments, and dramatic coordinated visuals.”
